2. Dorrigo National Park
While in Coffs Harbour, you will definitely want to check out Dorrigo National Park. This scenic park gives you a chance to experience a true rainforest environment. If you have time, the Wonga Walk is a wonderful path that takes you underneath waterfalls and through wildlife areas. You can also take the Skywalk through the top of the rainforest canopy, so you get a birds-eye view of the forest and the animals that live there. 3. Bunker Cartoon Gallery
The Bunker Cartoon Gallery is one of the coolest places to visit in the Coffs Harbour area. The building is an old World War II bunker, which gives it a unique atmosphere and a sense of history. The gallery is Australia’s only dedicated black and white art gallery, and home to an outstanding collection of cartoons. There is also a collection of fine wood art.
4. The Butterfly House
Walk among hundreds of live butterflies at the Butterfly House. This unique building is set up like an enclosed rainforest. You can admire these delicate creatures as you learn about their life cycle from one of the knowledgeable guides. While you’re here, you can also explore the walled maze, or refresh yourself with tea and homemade snacks in the Garden Room.
5. Tabatinga Entertainment Centre
Kids of all ages will enjoy an afternoon at the Tabatinga Family Fun Centre. This entertainment center has a rainforest theme, and a range of fun activities. Children enjoy the jungle gym and climbing structures. The whole family can play a game of glow-in-the-dark mini golf, or challenge each other with ball blasting cannons.
Bellingen is a small town near Coffs Harbour, with a weathered country look and a new age vibe. The town is set in a scenic river valley, along the Waterfall Way – one of the most beautiful drives around. Many artists live here, and you’ll see their paintings, sculptures and crafts around town. Bellingen is also known for its annual Jazz Festival in August, and Global Carnival in October.
For something entirely different, you can visit another nearby town, Woolgoolga. There is a large Sikh population here that dates back several generations.
